Description

Tebita Ambulance Pre-Hospital Emergency Medical Service (TEBITA) is Ethiopia’s first private-sector emergency medical services company, founded in 2008 in Addis Ababa by Mr. Kibret Abebe, a licensed nurse anesthetist with more than 25 years of healthcare experience. The company provides 24-hour ambulance services within Addis Ababa, remote medical assistance to multinational companies operating in Ethiopia, and ground evacuation services across the country. Licensed by the Addis Ababa Health Bureau, Tebita also offers certified first aid and health safety training. In 2015, Mr. Abebe partnered with U.S. investors to establish East Africa Emergency Services, LTD in Seychelles, expanding Tebita’s capacity and reach. The organization was created to reduce severe injuries, mortality, and morbidity among accident victims and patients with emergency medical conditions, emphasizing the importance of professional pre-hospital care in recovery and rehabilitation. To date, Tebita has responded to more than 60,000 ambulance calls and remains the only private company of its kind in Ethiopia. It is widely recognized for its four-digit emergency number (8035) in Addis Ababa and serves as a representative for international health insurance providers such as Africa Assist, AMREF Flying Doctors, and SOS International.
